Wheelers Case Study: On Your Bike

March 2026 Andy Bailey

The Gap.

Cities were not designed for the way we now live. We commute further, work differently, and expect more from the places we spend our time. Yet for many people, moving through cities still feels inefficient, unhealthy and disconnected from daily life.

Cycling should be part of the answer. The data support this. Demand is rising. But participation remains low because the experience doesn’t work end-to-end. The bike ride might be enjoyable and getting safer, but the end-of-journey experience was and still is woeful.

Wheelers began with that gap.

The Original Insight.

Most urban cycling initiatives focus on infrastructure: lanes, racks, and compliance.

Wheelers recognised that movement is not just a transport problem, it’s a lifestyle one.

People don’t stop cycling because they dislike riding bikes. They stop because the wider experience fails them: no showers, nowhere to park safely, no way to recharge, refuel, or reset before the day begins.

Wheelers reframes cycling as something that needs to fit seamlessly into work, health, and city life, rather than sit awkwardly alongside them.

What Wheelers Did Differently.

Wheelers created a club-based model for urban movement. Not a bike park. Not a single-use facility. But a destination that completes the journey.

Wheeler’s clubs were designed to support cyclists at the end of their ride, providing safe storage, charging, showers, lockers, servicing, nutrition and space to work or connect.

The aim is simple: help people arrive ready for the day, not worn down by the commute.

This shift from infrastructure to experience is where its originality lives.

An Original Phygital

Wheelers is both a physical and digital platform, designed to scale across cities, connecting them simply and easily, without random bikes littering pavements.

  • The Clubs: Secure, welcoming, street-level spaces that support cycling as part of everyday life
  • The Wheelers Way app: Route planning, health tracking, carbon measurement, food and performance insights
  • Membership model: Simple, affordable access for everyone.
  • Everything-as-a-Service: Book services, buy products, and manage rewards through a single connected system

Together, these elements turn cycling from a fragmented activity into a supported habit.

Everyone Benefits from a Wheeler’s Network.

Wheelers is designed as an ecosystem, not a single-user solution.

  • Cyclists gain safer journeys, better health, lower carbon impact, and a smoother start to the day.
  • Employers gain healthier teams, improved productivity, and a credible wellbeing and sustainability benefit.
  • Real estate owners transform cycling facilities from cost centres into profit-generating destinations.
  • Cities and communities benefit from reduced congestion, lower emissions, and more active populations.

As participation grows, the benefits compound: socially, economically, and environmentally.

Or at least that was the vision, mission, strategy, and plans!!

Why was Wheeler’s Original

This case study is part of our Originals Series, so why was Wheelers, in our view, an original?

Wheelers is original not because it promotes cycling, but because it changes how cycling fits into life.

Instead of asking people to adapt to the city, it places a network of end-of-journey destinations at key hubs to support better movement. Instead of treating sustainability as a compliance issue, it embeds it into everyday choices. Instead of focusing on one user, it is designed for everyone affected by movement: cyclists, employers, property owners, and neighbourhoods.

That systems-level thinking is what turns an idea into something scalable.

Wheelers is a global solution that mobilises, energises, decarbonises, and democratises cities.

The Bigger Original Picture

The Wheelers’ network positions itself as both a business opportunity and a social one.

By mobilising, energising, decarbonising, and democratising cities, it aims to create healthier places to live and work while delivering measurable economic and ESG value.

Its ambition is clear: Everyone wins with Wheelers.

And that clarity is what makes it an Original.
